Why Altar

Prayer you can actually keep

Most prayers get thought once and lost. Altar gives them somewhere to live — and gives you a way to look back.

Rooted in Scripture

Pray the Word, not just about it

The whole Bible is built in — King James and American Standard, fully offline. Highlight what speaks to you, then pin the passage straight onto the prayer it belongs to, so it's waiting for you the next time you pray.

Faithfulness, made visible

See what a year of prayer looks like

Every time you pray for something, Altar marks the day. Over months those marks become a picture — of what you were carrying, how long you carried it, and the moment it was answered. Set gentle reminders so the days don't slip by.

Room to be honest

A journal for the things that don't fit a list

Some days need more than a line item. Write freely, add a photo, and let the entries stack up day by day into something you can read back later — the hard mornings and the answered ones, side by side.

Your prayers stay on your phone

Everything you write lives on your own device. We never receive your prayers, your journal, or your photos — there's no server of ours for them to sit on.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is Altar?
Altar is a prayer journal with the Bible built in. You write down what you're praying for, organize it however makes sense to you, pin Scripture to it, and mark the days you pray — so instead of disappearing, your prayers build into a record you can look back over.
How much does it cost?
Altar starts with a 7-day free trial, with every feature unlocked. After the trial you can continue with a monthly or yearly subscription, or make a one-time purchase for lifetime access — same app either way, so it comes down to whether you'd rather pay as you go or pay once. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, which you can do any time in your App Store or Google Play settings.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no email, and no password. Altar works the moment you open it.
Where are my prayers stored? Can you read them?
Your prayers, journal entries, and photos are stored on your device. We can't read them — they're never sent to us. If you turn on cloud backup, your backup file goes to your Google Drive or iCloud account, which we have no access to. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. The full Bible ships inside the app, and your prayers and journal are stored locally — so reading, praying, and writing all work with no connection at all.
Which Bible translations are included?
Altar includes the King James Version (1769) and the American Standard Version (1901), and you can switch between them as you read.
Will it remind me to pray?
If you want it to. You can set prayer reminders for the times and days that fit your rhythm. They're scheduled by your own device — nothing is pushed to you from a server.
What happens if I get a new phone?
Create a backup before you switch, then restore it on the new device. You can keep the backup file wherever you like, or let Altar save it to your own Google Drive or iCloud automatically.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes — Altar is built for both.
